Create Your Own Cleaners

We’ve written before about the household items that do double duty, but did you know that you can also create your own cleaners and disinfectants with a few simple items? For example, here’s just a few ways to use bleach:

Disinfecting Wipes: Mix ½ cup unconcentrated bleach with 1 gallon of water in a tall, airtight storage container. Fully submerge paper towels into the mixture (make sure you’re wearing gloves!). Wait about ten minutes before using your wipes.
Toilet Cleaner: Drain the excess solution from your wipes into a spray bottle and viola!

Flowerpot Protector: Mix 1 part bleach with 9 parts of water and you’ll create a solution that can help you kill off mold and organisms that live in flowerpots and can hurt your plants. (Pro tip: A teaspoon of bleach in the water for your cut flowers can also help them last longer!)
Dish Cleaner: If your dishes are looking yellowed or stained (we’re looking at you, coffee cups), add two tablespoons to your dishwasher before running the cycle as usual. You’ll get whiter, brighter dishes!
