Start the Hunt

In a twist on the neighborhood scavenger hunts that we saw at the start of the national quarantine, this Halloween hit includes getting friends to hang holiday décor around their homes or in windows—such as pumpkin or ghost pictures. When kids spot one of the items in the “wild,” parents reward them with candy from a basket they’re carrying.

Create a Candy Tree!

Because recommendations include limiting contact with others, let trick-or-treaters pick something easily off of your fence or nearby tree! Simply hang bits of candy using ribbon and allow revelers to pluck a piece as they pass by.

…Or Try a Table!

Let kids pick up individual candy cups from a table outside of your home. This will limit how many people touch each pack. Pro tip: Only put out a few at a time to keep kids from touching too many.

Pro Tip: Keep safety at hand by wearing gloves when you prepare or hand out treats. Only give out wrapped candy that can be wiped down and skip items like loose candy corn this year.

Haunt Your House

One way to get in the spirit no matter what is to level up your home Halloween decorating. Go for light up gobos, hanging monsters, and graveyards on your lawn. Want to go extra creepy? fog machines, too. Once the outside is suitably scary, focus on the interior with scary table décor and loads of candles.

Host a Virtual Costume Contest

Get your costume on and pull up a chair! This year has taught us that any kind of party can be a virtual one. Invite your favorite monsters to a video party—bring your own snacks! Then show off your costumes and vote on who had the best ones. For added togetherness, send out a scary playlist that friends can download so you’re all feeling the same witchy vibe. Don’t forget the prizes!

Carve Pumpkins

This classic Halloween activity is always fun for everyone—and safe when done at home with your family! Create your spooky design, then use the pumpkin’s insides for pie that you can enjoy as you display your handiwork outside your home. Want to make it social? Invite your boo crew to join you in a big, open space. Pro tip: Do this only a few days before Halloween, as carving will expedite the pumpkin’s deterioration
